What makes Bingle car insurance different?

What cover options does Bingle offer?

Bingle has two cover options up for grabs. Their Third Party Property Damage policy covers you if you cause damage to someone else's property. Their Comprehensive car insurance policy covers you for this plus fire, theft and malicious damage, as well as a bunch of other added benefits.

Comprehensive car insurance

Bingle's comprehensive car insurance covers accidental loss or damage to your car caused by accidents, storm, hail, fire, theft and malicious damage. This includes cover for towing and storage costs as well as emergency accommodation and repairs. You will also have $20,000,000 of legal liability cover if you're responsible for accidental damage to someone else's car or property.

Bingle do not offer a third party fire and theft policy, so if you want this cover you'll need to take out a comprehensive policy.

What won't be covered in a comprehensive policy?

Bingle will not pay your car insurance claim for the following reasons:

  • If it is for general wear and tear of your car, including mould, rust, corrosion or depreciation.
  • If it is for mechanical or electrical breakdown or failure.
  • If it is for loss or damage caused when you used the incorrect type of fuel.
  • If it is for the replacement of undamaged parts.
  • If it is for loss or damage that occurred by allowing your car to be driven after an incident of loss or damage (unless you couldn't have known that this would lead to further loss or damage).
  • If it is due to an incident that occurred when you were driving without an appropriate licence.
  • If it is for legal liability caused by someone you didn't allow to use your car.
  • If your car was being used for unlawful purposes or beyond its design specifications.
  • If your car was not roadworthy when the incident occurred.
  • If your car was involved in a race or motorsport of any kind.
  • If your car was being used for hire or monetary reward (this does not include carpooling).
  • If it is for intentional loss or damage by you, someone you allowed to use your car, or someone acting with your consent.
  • If it is caused by a reckless act, for example, a burnout or street racing.
  • If it is caused by looting, rioting, war or terrorism.
  • If you, or someone you allow to use your car, were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • If you fail to take reasonable precautions to prevent loss, damage or liability.
  • If it is for an incident that occurred outside Australia.

Exclusions for third party policies

The exclusions for third party policies differs slightly to those of a comprehensive policy. This is because a third party policy will only cover you for costs if you damage someone else's car or property; it won't actually pay out anything in relation to your own car.

What excess will I have to pay?

When you make a claim on your Bingle car insurance policy, you may need to pay an excess to contribute to the cost of the claim. There are three excesses you need to be aware of:

  • Standard excess. The standard excess applies to all claims unless otherwise stated in the PDS, and it ranges from $650 to $2,200 depending on where you live.
  • Age excess. The age excess is payable when the driver using your car at the time of an incident is under 25 years of age. The excess amount is $600 and you must pay this in addition to the standard excess.
  • Unlisted household member or unlisted regular driver excess. This applies if the driver at the time of an incident is a household member or a regular driver of your vehicle, but is not a listed driver on your policy. This excess is $1,950.

How can I save on my Bingle car insurance policy?

There are several steps you can take to help lower the cost of your Bingle car insurance premium.

  • Paying annually. You can pay your Bingle car insurance premiums in one annual lump sum or through regular instalments. However, if you pay by instalments, the total cost of cover is more than if you pay annually.
  • Limiting your options. Your premiums will increase if you add optional extras such as windscreen or Keep Mobile cover to your Bingle policy.
  • Driving safely. Drivers with a claims-free history and no traffic infringements on their driving record can enjoy cheaper premiums.
  • Driving less. The distance your car covers each year is one of the factors used when calculating your premium.

Making a claim

You can apply for a claim online. You'll need to provide full details of the incident that causes your claim. The insurer may also request a range of supporting information, including the following:

  • A police incident number or report
  • The contact details of anyone else involved in the incident
  • Information and photos detailing the loss, damage or liability
  • Proof of ownership or value of your car
  • Proof of costs you have incurred
  • Written statements.

How to cancel Bingle car insurance

Bingle allows you to cancel your policy online. You can log in to your Bingle account and cancel there. Once you've logged in, you'll see a screen showing your options and policies. At the bottom of the screen you'll find My policy options. You can then cancel your car insurance.

    I’d like to know how much Bingle charges for list a new driver or change a driver as well as third party car insurance and comprehensive car insurance, please.

      If you are referring to Bingle Car Insurance, it doesn’t have cover for roadside assistance. While with their Comprehensive Car Insurance, it has Hire Car cover. Please contact Bingle directly to apply for their insurance and further inquire.
